Despite an uncertain economic future, unemployment numbers in Canada are declining. While great news for the economy, the downside is that the battle is heating up to find qualified candidates for small-business owners.

PROFIT recently conducted its first annual State of the Entrepreneur Nation survey, which appeared in the November 2012 issue of the magazine, to find the issues of greatest concern to small- and medium-sized business owners. It was no surprise to discover that HR challenges were at the top of this list.

In the survey, 21% of small business owners said their inability to find qualified workers was hurting their business results, and another 43% said it impacted their business at least some of the time. Clearly hiring talented employees is one of a business owner’s greatest challenges. The right people will engage your customers, build your business and help get you to the next level; the wrong ones can ruin you.
