If you haven’t come across Cmdr. Chris Hadfield on social media in the past few months, you’ve likely been living under a rock.

The Canadian astronaut has become a Twitter celebrity since arriving at the International Space Station (ISS) in December 2012. His Twitter feed has become an international phenomenon, with more than 750,000 followers—which may not seem that impressive, until you consider he’s built that base in less than five months. With a slew of super-popular tweets daily (just look at his retweets and “favourites” stats)—not to mention active Google+, Tumblr and Facebook pages—he’s amassed a massive audience in an industry not known for embracing social media.
