Lawrence Stroll, who co-founded Sportswear Holdings Ltd. with business partner Silas Chou, helped engineer the success of brands like Tommy Hilfiger—which was relatively unknown when the pair got involved in 1989.

In 2003, Stroll bought a 52% stake in Michael Kors. Under his leadership, the label began to court mid-market consumers, and Stroll helped steer it to a successful IPO in 2011. (He sold his shares in 2014.) The Geneva-based billionaire also owns Circuit Mont-Tremblant and is a bit of a sports car enthusiast—in 2011, he owned 25 Ferraris. This year, his son Lance Stroll will become the youngest Formula One driver, at 18, and the sixth Canadian ever to race in the class. There are murmurs that Lawrence Stroll is being considered to replace Bernie Ecclestone as F1 boss.
