ConDrain, the contractor the three DeGasperis brothers started a half-century ago, is best known for building sewers, water mains, storm drains and other essential urban arteries. But its most prominent project in recent years involved a water body of a different variety. The company was part of the redevelopment of the Friday Harbour marina in Innisfil, Ont., widening and deepening the shore of Lake Simcoe.
Brothers Alfredo (Fred), Angelo and Antonio founded the DeGaspiris family’s group of companies, which includes ConDrain, commercial and retail contractor Metrus and developer Aspen Ridge Homes. While the family nature of the business was never in doubt (when all three brothers were alive, they would meet on Saturdays to scout out potential areas to develop in the GTA), no one was just handed control. Cousins Romeo and Jim DeGasperis worked in the field from their early teens and became co-CEOs in 2013 (Romeo left in 2013).
