Among Canadian billionaires, not many are as low profile as Caleb and Tom Chan. Only once every few years do they turn up at a high-profile wedding or bestow money on a worthy cause such as the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. Caleb is the more public of the two, serving as chairman and CEO of Burrard International Holdings. He also runs the brothers’ San Francisco–based International Land Group.
The brothers’ Burrard International Holdings is a landholder and developer specializing in master-planned residential communities typically set around golf courses. But it sometimes deviates from that formula. Nexus, for example, is a condo tower under development in downtown Seattle. Burrard has also proposed building eight luxury townhomes along the shores of Howe Sound in B.C.
