In September, Calvin Helin’s Eagle Spirit Energy confirmed that it has something rival oil pipeline projects do not: consent from all the First Nations chiefs along the route of an energy corridor from Alberta to the Pacific Coast. That’s a huge step, but Helin needs to bring industry onside. Eagle Spirit hasn’t built or operated a pipeline before; it may take the final collapse of Enbridge’s Northern Gateway and Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Expansion for Helin’s company to succeed.
