Stewart Butterfield originally created Slack to communicate internally with team members while developing a video game. But the service is now used by more than a million people around the world. Slack does everything that email can do, and more. EBay, Sony, Nordstrom, PayPal and the New York Times are all powered by Butterfield’s creation. Even NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory team communicates via Slack while maneuvering the Mars Curiosity rover.
