The Most Powerful Entrepreneurs in Canada

Meet the 11 founders and leaders who made the 2016 Canadian Business Power 50 ranking of the country's most influential business people

Written by Murad Hemmadi

Who’s really calling the shots in Canada? Every year, Canadian Business compiles a list of the Power 50, the dealmakers, financiers, entrepreneurs and CEO whisperers who are shaping the way we do business now.

The 2016 edition of our ranking of Canada’s most influential people in the business world features everyone from the country’s new Prime Minister to industry lobbyists you’re probably never heard of. But several entrepreneurs also made this year’s list, and their inclusion is testament to Canada’s innovative and inspiring entrepreneurial community.

For the purposes of this list, we’ve chosen to define entrepreneurs as Power 50 members who are included at least in part because of the company they founded or own. That means some familiar names (Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, for example) don’t make the cut, while others who you may not have thought of as members of the entrepreneurial community do.

Here are the 11 entrepreneurs who made the cut, and why we put them on our list.
