Infographic: How BRIC and other economic groups compare

We compare the vital statistics of BRIC nations with those of the recently coined MIST and CIVETS.

Eleven years ago, Goldman Sachs chief economist Jim O’Neill coined the term “BRIC” to describe the economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China. O’Neill argued the countries’ large populations would enable their combined GDP to eclipse the G7 economies by 2037. Economists were soon looking for new assemblages of countries worth watching. In 2010, Robert Ward of the Economist Intelligence Unit grouped six countries with young populations as the CIVETS. Last year, O’Neill himself identified the MIST nations, four more countries with growth potential. But how do the clubs compare? Below, we compare their vital statistics.
