With a name like Yahoo!, company executives must have known right from the start that they were creating something worth celebrating.

Since 1995, Canadian Jeff Mallett has been responsible for establishing, operating and leading Yahoo! as the company’s President and COO. Under Mallett’s leadership, the company has grown from fledgling start-up to world-class status as a global communications, commerce and media giant. Today, Yahoo! is the Internet’s leading global consumer and business services company, offering a comprehensive network of essential services for Web users and businesses around the globe.

Prior to joining Yahoo!, Mallet was vice president and general manager of Novell’s worldwide consumer division, responsible for all facets of the business including product development, strategic relations and marketing communications. He founded WordPerfect’s consumer division in 1993 and, under his direction, the division successfully launched in more than 14 countries with retail distribution reaching 8,000 retail outlets worldwide.

Before Novell, Mallett was vice president and a founding executive team member of Reference Software, which was acquired by WordPerfect Corp. in 1992. He was also a founder and director of IPT Corp., a private telecommunications company that was acquired by Cable and Wireless in 1987.

Mallett, who had stints at University of Victoria, Santa Rosa Junior College and San Francisco State University, fell 9 credits short of a business degree. His achievements — shaping some of the most important products and services in the new economy — demonstrate clearly that success in the new economy doesn’t come from a book, but from dedication, vision and a strong network of support.
