Dave Asprey, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, claims his java recipe boosts energy and brain power. But you’ll need more than coffee to perform at your best. Here are Asprey’s three rules for having a more productive morning:
Eat more fat
“The most important thing you can do as an entrepreneur is stop wasting your willpower. You waste your willpower when you eat foods that cause cravings, and the number one thing you can do to crave less food is to eat more of the right kinds of fat. That includes fat found in coconut oil, ghee, and grass-fed lamb and bison. When your body has enough high-density fuel like that, your ability to pay attention to what’s important and ignore what’s unimportant will go through the roof.”
Drink buttered coffee
“Bulletproof Coffee, made with grass-fed, unsalted butter, is the single most effective way I know to turn off food cravings, turn your brain on all the way and make weight loss effortless. It has transformed my energy and my life.” (See recipe below.)
Sleep better
“You may not always get enough sleep, but when you do get it, you better make sure your sleep environment is optimal. You can do this by making sure the room you’re sleeping in is very, very dark. Don’t look at your phone—especially on full brightness—or your computer right before bed, because it will ruin your sleep quality. If you’re going to look at your phone, then at least use a screen protector that will cut out the spectrum of light that hurts the quality of your sleep.”
The Bulletproof coffee recipe
Add one to two tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter to one cup of freshly brewed coffee. Asprey says this helping of butter is all you need to get going in the morning. He also advises adding one to two tablespoons of Brain Octane, his variety of MCT oil, an allegedly brain-boosting supplement derived from coconut oil. Mix it all in a blender until foamy, like a latte. And if none of this works as advertised, at least it probably tastes good.
