National Magazine Awards honours PROFIT's 30th anniversary package on the best business tactics ever

PROFIT Magazine’s editorial package The 30 Best Business Practices of All Time won a silver award at the National Magazine Awards in Toronto June 7. The NMAs celebrate editorial achievement among Canadian magazines.

PROFIT won the silver in the Service: Personal Finance & Business category. The package, produced for the magazine’s 30th anniversary issue, presented the 30 best proven tactics of the most successful companies and executives from around the world. These tactics included: find your hedgehog, fire your customers, innovate Google’s way, document everything and develop raving fans with Net Promoter Scores. Editor and publisher Ian Portsmouth and senior editors Jim McElgunn and Frank Condron shared the award.

As well, the magazine received two honourable mentions in the same category. Meredith Birchall-Spencer, Frank Condron, Anthony Davis, Melissa Edwards, Kim Hart Macneill, John Lorinc, Jim McElgunn and Joanna Pachner were nominated for Opportunity Guide 2013. This package identified the top trends and hot markets for launching a new business, finding new customers or transforming an existing business in 2013. And freelance writer John Lorinc was nominated for Rethink Your Business Like It’s Brand New. This feature story explained how you can lose the baggage and reinvent your business to generate more sales, profits—and smiles.

“The 30 Best Business Practices of All Time” was also a finalist at the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards in Toronto June 4, in the Best One-of-a-Kind Article category. The KRWs honour editorial achievement in business-to-business magazines across Canada.
