China wants to buy from you

Written by ProfitGuide Staff

A new study of China’s growing class of urban consumers indicates an increasing demand for Western products.

“With 40% of urban Chinese Internet users having tried online shopping, Canada is witnessing the emergence of immense business opportunity,” says Glenn Rice, president of UPS Canada, which commissioned the study earlier this year. “There is a fast-growing middle class for Canadian exports. At a time when Canada continues to source Asia for manufacturing, targeting this area for consumer purchasing can secure our position on the international business scene.”

So, what do Chinese consumers want to buy from foreign suppliers? Topping the list are electronics, especially laptops, video/digital recording systems, digital cameras and mobile phones. The Chinese are also keen on Western apparel, particularly athletic shoes and blue jeans.
