For as long as there have been secret cabals of financial and political elites, they have been congregating regularly to eat shellfish and rule the world. But of the dozens of annual economic congregations, three stand out for their longevity and influential attendees: the World Economic Forum, the Bilderberg Group and the Trilateral Commission. On the occasion of our annual Power 50 ranking, we discovered that Canadians are well represented among the global superclass. But who among them attended all three in the triumvirate of concentrated power this year? None. That rare honour goes to Henry Kissinger, the epitome of the geopolitical mastermind, a man whose natural environment consists of a war room. To quote Kissinger himself: “Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.”
