1977 Earns a B.Sc. from the University of New Brunswick. Gets a master’s degree in mineral exploration from Queen’s University four years later.

1981 Joins Teck Corp. as a geologist after exploring gold, uranium and base metals in the Northwest Territories at U.S. Steel and AMAX.

1985 Becomes CEO and president of Silver Standard Resources, which now has a market cap of more than $1 billion.

1993 Two gold and silver bugs, Jim Blanchard and Rick Rule, refinance Silver Standard’s return to its silver roots.

2007 Is elected president of the Silver Institute industry association for a two-year term.
