Bio: Rob Brenneman

The executive vice chairman of Suncor Energy talks about the struggle in the natural gas industry, a quick history of Petro-Canada and loving the outdoors.

1968 – Graduates from the University of Toronto with a B.Sc. in chemical engineering. Gets a master of science from the University of Manchester a year later.

1970 – Joins Imperial Oil Ltd. as an engineer in Sarnia, Ont. Takes over as president in 1992.

1994 – Becomes CEO of Esso Benelux, Exxon Corp.’s affiliate company, in Breda, Netherlands.

1997 – Moves to Dallas to be Exxon’s general manager of corporate planning.

2000 – Becomes CEO and president of Petro-Canada. Steps down in summer 2009, after the company merges with Suncor Energy Inc.
