US stocks heading for sixth straight week of gains; Dow, S&P 500 indexes renew record highs

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks are higher on Wall Street as the stock market closes in on its sixth straight week of gains.

Major U.S. indexes are pushing further into record territory as traders remain hopeful that the Federal Reserve will continue its easy-money policies under incoming chief Janet Yellen.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor’s 500 indexes are at record highs for the third day running.

The Dow was up 47 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 15,922 in midday trading Friday. The S&P 500 was up two points, or 0.1 per cent, to 1,792.

The Nasdaq edged up less than a point to 3,973.

The S&P 500 is on pace to close higher for the week, marking its longest winning streak since February.
