The Chicago-based company said it had profit of $2.37 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $2.75 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.70 per share.
The airline posted revenue of $10.56 billion in the period, missing Street forecasts. Analysts expected $10.62 billion, according to Zacks.
United shares have risen 30 per cent since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 57 per cent in the last 12 months.
