RED DEER, Alta. – Three businesses in Red Deer, Alta., have been forced to pay several temporary foreign workers $83,000.
The companies — Econo Lodge Inn and Suites, Holiday liquor store and Winks convenience store — were found guilty of violating Alberta’s Employment Standards Code.
The investigation was launched after complaints from employees in 2014.
The offences include failing to comply with a notice to provide employment records and obstructing the investigation.
This is the second case since 2009 in which Employment Standards has pursued charges under the Employment Standards Code.
