DIEPPE, N.B. _ Sears Canada’s former store at the CF Champlain mall in Dieppe, N.B. will be turned into a TD Canada Trust corporate office.
The announcement is part of a trend in recent years by mall owner Cadillac Fairview to transform some of its retail space into offices.
In March, Cadillac Fairview said the former Sears digs at the Toronto Eaton Centre would become a Bank of Montreal office.
The company has also transformed part of the former Sears space at the Pacific Centre mall in Vancouver into offices for Sony Image Works, Microsoft and law firm Miller Thomson.
In recent years, some malls have struggled to retain retailers and attract customers as online shopping has grown in popularity.
Flagship retailers like Sears and Target have also closed leaving malls searching for new tenants to take on large spaces. To address their troubles, many have turned to restaurants, entertainment complexes, health care offices, car dealerships and even condos.
