MONTREAL – SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by a Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) subsidiary to provide engineering, procurement and construction management for the Eleonore gold project in northeastern Quebec.
No value for the Opinaca Mines Ltd. contract was disclosed.
The mine located in the James Bay region, 350 kilometres north of Matagami, will be designed to process 7,000 tonnes of ore per day.
The Montreal-based engineering giant said Wednesday that the work will include the engineering and design of the mineral processing plant, all plant infrastructure, tailings management facilities, a permanent camp, service buildings and facilities and an industrial water treatment plant.
“This award validates our product-focused approach, which integrates the best expertise from across the organization in order to bring reliable project delivery solutions to our clients,” said executive vice-president Dale Clarke.
Detailed engineering has started at SNC-Lavalin’s (TSX:SNC) offices in Montreal, Vancouver and Quebec City. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2014.
SNC-Lavalin is one of the leading engineering and construction groups in the world with projects in some 100 countries.
On the Toronto Stock Exchange, its shares fell 50 cents to $43.50 in Wednesday trading.
