Seagate, Alcoa and United climb; Fastenal slides

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily on Tuesday:

Seagate Technology PLC (STX), up $5.26 to $29.35

The data storage company forecast strong quarterly revenue and said it will cut about 6,500 jobs.

Alcoa Inc. (AA), up 55 cents to $10.69

The aluminum producer reported better-than-expected results for the second quarter.

Sage Therapeutics Inc. (SAGE), up $12.56 to $46.21

The company said an experimental treatment for severe postpartum depression worked in a small clinical study.

Fastenal Co. (FAST), down $1.57 to $43.79

The maker of industrial and construction fasteners disclosed a smaller profit and less revenue than analysts expected.

Southwestern Energy Co. (SWN), up $1.30 to $14.20

Energy companies rose Tuesday as the price of oil jumped.

United Continental Holdings Inc. (UAL), up $3.75 to $46.16

The airline said passenger traffic improved in June and it expects a smaller decline in an important revenue measurement.

American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL), up $3.50 to $34.66

The airline said it is partnering with two banks to provide co-branded credit cards.

WEC Energy Group Inc. (WEC), down $1.21 to $63.70

Utility companies continued to slip as investors sold some safe investments and bought riskier ones.
