HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – United Auto Workers vice-president General Holiefield has been named in a misdemeanour arrest warrant following the accidental shooting of his wife in their Harrison Township home, northeast of Detroit.
The Macomb County sheriff’s office says Holiefield faces a reckless use of a firearm charge, which carries up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine upon conviction.
Holiefield was not in custody Friday. He is retiring this year from the UAW.
A Jan. 22 arraignment is scheduled in Clinton Township.
The 60-year-old Holiefield was cleaning a handgun on Dec. 30 when one shot fired, striking 50-year-old Monica Morgan in the abdomen. Morgan is recovering.
Holiefield’s attorney Rob Tuth told WXYZ-TV that his client is “way more devastated by what happened to his wife, Monica, than any criminal proceedings.”
