Qatar Petroleum, Total form new company to develop oil field

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Qatar Petroleum and Total announced a joint venture to create a new company that will develop and operate one of the world’s largest oil fields in the Arab Gulf country.

QP announced late Sunday that it will establish a new Qatari company called the North Oil Company, of which 70 per cent will be owned by Qatar Petroleum and 30 per cent by Total. As part of the joint venture, the state-owned oil and gas corporation licensed the rights for the production, sale and export of the Al-Shaheen offshore oil field’s crude for 25 years starting July 2017.

QP says the Al-Shaheen oil field has been producing for 22 years and that it currently produces around 40 per cent of Qatar’s crude oil, around 300,000 barrels per day.
