Power outage at JFK disrupts same terminal in gunfire scare

NEW YORK, N.Y. – A power outage has been reported at Kennedy Airport in the same terminal where a false report of gunfire caused a panicked evacuation two days ago.

American Airlines operates Terminal 8. It said Tuesday that escalators and elevators were out of service.

The airline says screening of checked bags might be delayed. It’s encouraging travellers to arrive at least two hours prior to departure.

There’s no word so far on what caused the power outage.

On Sunday night, a report of gunfire at the terminal led to a panicked evacuation of the airport. That scare started in Terminal 8 and led to Terminal 1. Authorities are exploring the possibility that loud, boisterous cheering of Usain (yoo-SAYN’) Bolt’s Olympic 100-meter dash victory prompted the scare.
