Police: Mother, 3 sons killed when train hit car in Oklahoma

POTEAU, Okla. – Police in eastern Oklahoma say four people who died when a train hit their car have been identified as a mother and her three sons.

Assistant police Chief Greg Russell says the collision happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, when 37-year-old April Goines tried to drive across railroad tracks at an intersection without crossing bars in Poteau. Russell says the vehicle was struck by a Kansas City Southern train, and two backseat passengers were ejected.

Police say Goines and her three sons died at the scene. Her injured daughter was taken to a hospital about 130 miles away in Tulsa. The ages of the children haven’t been released.

The Tulsa World ( ) reports that the Federal Railroad Administration is investigating the collision.
