Olga Farman

Olga Farman, 32
Lawyer; Partner, Lavery

“It’s an intense life.” Farman says this several times during a mid-morning chat, and for a good reason. This year, the young Quebec City attorney became a partner at Lavery, where she’s carved out a niche in the fi elds of intellectual property, university technology transfers and life sciences, the last an area into which she says few attorneys venture due to the requisite technical expertise. As a result, she’s often invited to speak at legal and biotech conferences. A native of small-town Quebec, she’s also active in the arts community, sitting on the board of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. Her ideal relaxation is “to go have a glass of wine and then go to the theatre. That’s how I don’t become crazy.”

It’s been a quick climb for Farman, who holds a bachelor of laws and MBA from Laval University and was recently named one of the Top 40 young lawyers in Canada by legal industry publisher Lexpert. Only a few years into her career, Farman is already musing on new paths. “Is it going to be politics? Is it going to be business?”

On dealing with stress: “You have to embrace the challenge: smile, breathe and just fi ght for what you believe in. The rest is just a game.”
