Profit and sales at the company behind brands such as Vans and Timberland fell far short of expectations.

WageWorks Inc., up $1.87 to $43.93

The provider of health, commuter and other employee benefits reported stronger-than-expected results.

Southwestern Energy Co., down $1.40 to $7.09

The oil and gas company tumbled as energy prices retreated after a recent rally.


Applied Materials Inc., up $1.21 to $18.38

The chipmaking equipment company reported stronger-than-expected profit and sales.

Yahoo Inc., up 62 cents to $30.04

The Internet company created a committee of independent directors and hired advisers as part of an effort to redefine itself.
