Norbord CEO Shineton stepping down in January; COO Peter Wijnbergen to take helm

TORONTO – Norbord Inc. (TSX:NBD) president and CEO Barrie Shineton announced Thursday that he will retire in January.

Shineton, who has headed the wood panel manufacturer since 2004, is being replaced by Peter Wijnbergen, currently senior vice-president and chief operating officer.

Norbord chairman Bob Harding lauded Shineton for his contributions over the past 10 years and for “successfully leading Norbord through the most difficult period in the company’s history.”

Wijnbergen, who was appointed COO in 2010, is a 26-year veteran of the company who has held senior leadership positions in operations, strategic planning and sales, marketing and logistics.

Norbord is an international producer of wood-based panels with assets of $1 billion, employing some 1,900 people at 13 plant locations in the United States, Europe and Canada.

Norbord is one of the world’s largest producers of oriented strand board and also manufactures particleboard, medium density fibreboard and related value-added products.
