New vehicle sales in Canada drop in October; Ford sales numbers delayed by fire

RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – The latest DesRosiers Automotive report shows new vehicle sales in Canada in October — excluding sales by Ford — saw a 5.7 per cent decline compared with the same month last year.

The Richmond Hill, Ont.-based automotive consulting firm says excluding Ford of Canada sales, 133,042 new light vehicles were purchased last month compared with 141,024 in October 2015.

Sales of new light vehicles, however, were still up 2.4 per cent year-to-date — not including the October sales for Ford.

Ford of Canada’s October sales were unavailable due to a fire at Ford Motor Co.’s world headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.

The fire at an electrical substation interrupted power to one of Ford’s data centres used by dealers to report sales.

Ford of Canada expects to release its October sales results later this week.
