Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (13,326.04 down 32.35 points):

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Up 30 cents, or 4.55 per cent, at $6.90 on 8.87 million shares. The carrier’s stock price continues to soar to heights not seen in more than five years in the wake of a strong earnings report last week.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Plane and train maker. Down 11 cents, or 2.38 per cent, at $4.52 on 6.53 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Down eight cents, or 0.42 per cent, at $18.93 on 4.31 million shares. The gold sector led decliners on the main index, sliding 1.77 per cent to 171.37 points as the price of bullion finished at US$1,271.20 per ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange, down $9.90.

Denison Mines Corp. (TSX:DML). Miner. Unchanged at $1.14 on 3.57 million shares.

Enterprise Group, Inc. (TSX:E). Utility. Up two cents, or 2.47 per cent, at 83 cents on 3.31 million shares. The Alberta-based company posted improved third-quarter results helped by its acquisition of Calgary Tunnelling and Horizontal Augering Ltd. Earnings jumped to $3.9 million or five cents per share versus $700,000 or nil per share in the same year-earlier period. Revenue more than doubled to $10 million from $4.3 million.

Toronto Venture Exchange (926.32 down 9.04 points):

Renegade Petroleum Ltd. (TSXV:RPL). Oil and gas. Down six cents, or 5.56 per cent, at $1.02 on 4.15 million shares.

Border Petroleum Corp. (TSXV:BOR). Oil and gas. Down half a cent, or 33.33 per cent, at a penny on 3.16 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Choice Properties REIT (TSX:CHP.UN). Real estate trust. Down four cents, or 0.39 per cent, at $10.20 on 74,031 shares. The trust posted profits of $73.6 million, or 21 cents per unit for the period between Sept. 30 and July 5, when it launched its initial public offering.

Rona Inc. (TSX:RON). Home improvement retailer. Up 44 cents, or 3.66 per cent, at $12.45 on 113,764 shares. The company missed expectations in the third quarter amid weaker housing construction starts, particularly in Quebec. Rona earned $30 million or 25 cents per share, up from $5.5 million or five cents a year ago. Revenues decreased 4.3 per cent to $1.17 billion.

Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. (TSX:SC). Retailer. Up 33 cents, or 0.54 per cent, at $61.05 on 477,006 shares. Third-quarter profit dipped compared with a year ago as Shoppers was hit by costs related to a friendly takeover of the company by Loblaw Co. Shoppers booked a profit of $165.8 million or 83 cents per share compared with $167.7 million or 81 cents per share a year ago when it had more shares outstanding. Sales totalled $3.29 billion, up from $3.21 million.
