Toronto Stock Exchange (12,674.73 up 65.91 points):
Paladin Energy Ltd. (TSX:PDN). Miner. Up nine cents, or 7.56 per cent, at $1.28 on 14,404,218 shares. The uranium producer’s stock closed at its highest level since early October after it posted record revenue of US$133.9 million in the quarter ended Dec. 31. The Australian-based company also had a record quarterly and annual production at its Langer Heinrich and Kayelekera mines, both in Africa.
TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Up a penny, or 0.41 per cent, at $2.42 on 9,344,672 shares.
Uranium One Inc. (TSX:UUU). Miner. Down three cents, or 1.08 per cent, at $2.75 on 8,271,844 shares. The giant uranium producer has been in the spotlight since announcing earlier in the week that its Russian majority shareholder, ARMZ, is hoping to take the company private in a $1.3-billion deal.
Primaris Retail Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:PMZ.UN). Commercial real estate. Up seven cents, or 0.26 per cent, at $26.58 on 6,779,306 units. H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:HR.UN) announced late Wednesday a friendly agreement to buy Primaris in a cash and stock deal that tops a rival offer by a consortium led by KingSett Capital. H&R units were down 51 cents, or 2.14 per cent, at $23.28 on 4,051,863 shares.
Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up four cents, or 0.99 per cent, at $4.08 on 5,882,763 shares.
Research In Motion (TSX:RIM). Wireless technology. Up 13 cents, or 0.89 per cent, at $14.68 on 4,641,253 shares. The BlackBerry maker’s stock has been surging amid growing anticipation over the unveiling of its new smartphones Jan. 30.
TSX Venture Exchange (1,233.15 up 2.95 points):
Sintana Energy Inc. (TSXV:SNN). Oil and gas explorer. Down half a cent, or 3.23 per cent, at 15 cents on 6,765,000 shares.
Mira Resources Corp. (TSXV:MRP). Oil and gas. Down three cents, or 24 per cent, at 9.5 cents on 6,393,950 shares.
Companies reporting major news:
TransForce (TSX:TFI). Transportation and logistics. Up 93 cents, or 4.40 per cent, at $22.05 on 1,027,243 shares. The Montreal-based company is acquiring Texas-based Velocity Express for about $35 million. Velocity, which has about 2,600 staff and independent contractors, is expected to add $160 million of additional revenues for TransForce once the transaction closes by the end of the month.
Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX:SLF). Insurer. Up 30 cents, or 1.07 per cent, at $28.24 on 1,005,628 shares. The Toronto-based insurer and Khazanah Nasional, a Malaysian state investment company, are teaming up to purchase 98 per cent of CIMB Aviva Assurance life insurance company. The total shared cost is pegged at $586 million.
