Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up eight cents, or 2.08 per cent, to $3.92 on 8.3 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Up 70 cents, or 5.60 per cent, to $13.19 on 8.2 million shares. Encana earned US$317 million in its latest quarter as its results were boosted by asset sales and lower costs compared with a year ago. The energy company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, says the profit amounted to 37 cents per share for the quarter ended Sept. 30 compared with a loss of nearly $1.24 billion or $1.47 per share a year ago.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 46 cents, or 8.86 per cent, to $5.65 on 7.1 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 11 cents, or 2.26 per cent, to $4.98 on 6.7 million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down seven cents, or 1.38 per cent, to $4.99 on 4.5 million shares.

HudBay Minerals Inc. (TSX:HBM). Miner. Up 37 cents, or 6.57 per cent, to $6.00 on 4.3 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Oil and gas. Down $1.25, or 2.96 per cent, to $40.94 on 2.7 million shares. Canadian Natural posted a net loss of $326 million or 29 cents per diluted share in the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with the year-earlier loss of $111 million or 10 cents per diluted share. Product sales in the quarter totalled nearly $2.48 billion, down from almost $3.32 billion in the same quarter last year. Its adjusted loss from operations rose to $355 million or 32 cents per diluted share in the quarter, versus an adjusted profit of $113 million or 10 cents per diluted share in the year-earlier period.
