Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 21 cents, or 3.28 per cent, to $6.61 on 9.4-million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up 27 cents, or 7.36 per cent, to $3.94 on 6.7-million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down 21 cents, or 3.27 per cent, to $6.21 on 6.4-million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Down 51 cents, or 4.81 per cent, to $10.09 on six-million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 58 cents, or 8.07 per cent, to $7.77 on six-million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Down eight cents, or 0.76 per cent, to $10.40 on 5.6-million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Loblaw Companies Ltd. (TSX:L). Grocer. Up $2.60, or 3.67 per cent, to $73.45 on 1.6-million shares. Loblaw eked out more revenue from its diverse retail, financial services and real estate businesses in the second quarter but saw its net profit drop by 14.6 per cent from the same time last year. The company’s net income was $158 million or 39 cents per share, down from $185 million or 44 cents per share.

Torstar Corp. (TSX:TS.B). Publishing. Down 10 cents, or 6.02 per cent, to $1.56 on 426,621 shares. Torstar said Wednesday it saw its second-quarter loss swell as it incurred expenses related to its acquisition of VerticalScope last year and the closure of its printing plant in Vaughan, Ont., this month. The parent company of newspapers — including the Toronto Star — reported a net loss of $23.9 million, which amounted to 30 cents per Torstar share. That’s up from a $1.1-million loss or one cent per share in last year’s second quarter.
