Markets Right Now: US stocks slip, extending a losing streak

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The latest on developments in U.S. financial markets:

Stocks are moving modestly lower in midday trading on Wall Street as the market extends a pre-election losing streak.

Earnings were in focus again Wednesday as several companies fell after posting disappointing results.

Frontier Communications slumped 9 per cent after reporting a loss that was wider than analysts were expecting. Pioneer Natural Resources fell 6 per cent after its earnings came up short of forecasts, and Sempra Energy gave up 4 per cent after its revenue fell short.

The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 15 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 18,020. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 6 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,105. The Nasdaq composite lost 16 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 5,137.
