Markets Right Now: S&P 500 on track for record high close

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The latest on developments in global financial markets (all times local):

11:45 a.m.

Stocks are moving higher on Wall Street, putting the S&P 500 index on track for a record high close.

Technology and industrial companies rose the most in midday trading Monday, while traditional safe-play stocks like utilities and phone companies fell.

Bond prices also fell as investors shifted money out of low-risk assets. Yields on U.S. Treasury notes rose.

Boeing rose 2 per cent and chemical maker DuPont rose 1 per cent, the biggest gains in the Dow Jones industrial average.

The Dow was up 114 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 18,259.

The S&P 500 gained 10 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 2,140. The Nasdaq composite rose 39 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 4,995.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.42 per cent.

Banks and technology stocks rose the most in early trading Monday, while traditional safe-play stocks like utilities, phone companies and consumer goods makers fell.

Bond prices also fell as investors shifted money out of low-risk assets. Yields on U.S. Treasury notes rose.

Boeing and JPMorgan Chase each rose 2 per cent, the biggest gains in the Dow Jones industrial average.

The Dow was up 92 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 18,240.

The S&P 500 gained 8 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 2,138. The Nasdaq composite rose 32 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 4,988.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.40 per cent.
