NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks ended Wednesday’s trading slightly lower as shares of energy companies and consumer goods makers outweighed gains in technology companies like Apple.
On Wednesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.58 points, or 0.01 per cent, to 18,472.17.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 2.60 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 2,166.58.
The Nasdaq composite rose 29.76 points, or 0.6 per cent, to end at 5,139.81.
This week:
The Dow is down 98.68 points, or 0.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 is down 8.45 points, or 0.4 per cent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 39.65 points, or 0.8 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,047.14 points, or 6 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 122.64 points, or 6 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 132.40 points, or 2.6 per cent.
