NEW YORK, N.Y. – U.S. stocks climbed Wednesday as investors continued to recover some confidence in the health of the global economy. That sent oil prices higher and gave energy companies a boost, while materials companies also rose.
On Wednesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 145.46 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 17,851.51.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index picked up 14.48 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 2,090.54.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 33.84 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 4,894.89.
For the week:
The Dow is up 350.57 points, or 2 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 38.22 points, or 1.9 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 125.33 points, or 2.6 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 426.48 points, or 2.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 46.60 points, or 2.3 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 112.52 points, or 2.3 per cent.
