NEW YORK, N.Y. – Another steep drop in the price of oil weighed on global markets Tuesday. Investors remained deeply concerned about the global economy following this week’s disappointing Chinese and U.S. manufacturing data.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 295.64 points, or 1.8 per cent, to 16,153.54.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 36.35 points, or 1.9 per cent, to 1,903.03.
The Nasdaq composite index lost 103.42 points, or 2.2 per cent, to 4,516.95.
For the week:
The Dow is down 312.76 points, or 1.9 per cent.
The S&P 500 has lost 37.21 points, or 1.9 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 97.01 points, or 2.1 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 1,271.49 points, or 7.3 per cent.
The S&P 500 is down 140.91 points, or 6.9 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 490.46 points, or 9.8 per cent.
