NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks fell moderately on Monday as investors took a break after four weeks of gains that brought the market to record highs. Energy companies fell more than the rest of the market as the price of oil took another turn lower.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 77.79 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 18,493.06.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 6.55 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,168.48.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 2.53 points, or 0.1 per cent, to end at 5,097.63.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,068.03 points, or 6.1 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 124.54 points, or 6.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 90.22 points, or 1.8 per cent.
