NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks inched higher Monday, enough to send the Standard & Poor’s 500 index to a record close for the fifth time in six days. Technology and financial stocks led the way.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 16.50 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 18,533.05.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained 5.15 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 2,166.89.
The Nasdaq composite added 26.19 points, or 0.5 per cent, to end at 5,055.78.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,108.02 points, or 6.4 per cent.
The S&P 500 is up 122.95 points, or 6.0 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 48.37 points, or 1.0 per cent.
