NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks ended a strong week on a flat note as lower oil prices and utility stocks offset encouraging economic news. Still, the market ended Friday with a second straight weekly gain.
On Friday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 57.32 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 16,639.97.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 3.65 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,948.05.
The Nasdaq composite index added 8.27 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 4,590.47.
For the week:
The Dow rose 247.98 points, or 1.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 added 30.27 points, or 1.6 per cent.
The Nasdaq was up 86.04 points, or 1.9 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 785.06 points, or 4.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 is down 95.89 points, or 4.7 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 416.94 points, or 8.3 per cent.
