How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Friday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stocks posted steep losses Friday, ending the week with broad declines, as investors fretted over a report showing that U.S. job creation slowed last month.

Technology stocks fell especially hard, and shares of LinkedIn had their worst day in history.

On Friday:

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 211.61 points, or 1.3 per cent, to 16,204.97.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 35.40 points, or 1.9 per cent, to 1,880.05.

The Nasdaq composite index lost 146.51 points, or 3.3 per cent, to 4,363.14.

For the week:

The Dow ended down 261.33 points, or 1.6 per cent.

The S&P 500 lost 60.22 points, or 3.1 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 250.81 points, or 5.4 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is down 1,220.06 points, or 7.0 per cent.

The S&P 500 is down 163.92 points, or 8.0 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 644.27 points, or 12.9 per cent.
