How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Friday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – U.S. stocks surged Friday and finished just short of record highs as investors responded enthusiastically to a strong June job market report.

On Friday:

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 250.86 points, or 1.4 per cent, to 18,146.74.

The S&P 500 added 32 points, or 1.5 per cent, to 2,129.90.

The Nasdaq composite jumped 79.95 points, or 1.6 per cent, to 4,956.76.

For the week:

The Dow rose 197.37 points, or 1.1 per cent.

The S&P 500 picked up 26.95 points, or 1.3 per cent.

The Nasdaq gained 94.19 points, or 1.9 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 721.71 points, or 4.1 per cent.

The S&P 500 is up 85.96 points, or 4.2 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 50.65 points, or 1 per cent.
