The stock market fell Wednesday, led by declines in retailers and energy companies. Macy’s plunged after releasing weak results and oil and gas companies fell along with the price of crude.
For Tuesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 55.99 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 17,702.22.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index slipped 6.72 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,075.
The Nasdaq composite declined 16.22 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 5,067.02.
For the week:
The Dow has fallen 208.11 points, or 1.2 per cent.
The S&P 500 has dipped 24.20 points, or 1.2 per cent.
The Nasdaq has retreated 80.10 points, or 1.6 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 120.85 points, or 0.7 per cent.
The S&P is up 16.10 points, or 0.8 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 330.96 points, or 7 per cent.
