The stock market broke a four-day slump with modest gains on Tuesday. Leaders included retailers, media companies and homebuilders.
For Tuesday:
The Dow Jones industrial average added 27.73 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,758.21.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index edged up 3.14 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 2,081.72.
The Nasdaq composite index lost 12.06 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 5,083.24.
For the week:
The Dow has lost 152.12 points, or 0.9 per cent.
The S&P 500 has fallen 17.48 points, or 0.8 per cent.
The Nasdaq has shed 63.88 points, or 1.2 per cent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 64.86 points, or 0.4 per cent.
The S&P is up 22.82 points, or 1.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 347.19 points, or 7.3 per cent.
