The stock market logged small losses on Tuesday as energy shares slipped lower with the price of oil.
Oil fell below fell $45 a barrel during trading, and has dropped almost 60 per cent since June. The slump means much lower profits for energy companies.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 27.16 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,613.68.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index shed 5.23 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,023.03
The Nasdaq composite lost 3.21 points, or less than 0.1 per cent, to 4,661.50.

The Dow is down 123.69 points, or 0.7 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is down 21.78 points, or 1.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 42.57 points, or 0.9 per cent
For the year:
The Dow is down 209.39 points, or 1.2 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is down 35.87 points, or 1.7 per cent.
The Nasdaq is down 74.56 points, or 1.6 per cent.
