How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Monday

U.S. stock indexes closed moderately lower on Monday, weighed down by energy stocks as the slide in oil prices continued. The market was coming off its best day in two months.

On Monday:

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 85.94 points, or 0.5 per cent, to close at 18,105.17.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 10.77 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 2,105.33.

The Nasdaq shed 9.98 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 4,993.57.

For the year:

The Dow is up 282.10 points, or 1.6 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 46.43 points, or 2.3 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 257.52 points, or 5.4 per cent.
