U.S. stocks fell on Monday as oil prices turned sharply lower and spooked investors into dumping shares of drillers and other energy-service companies. Chevron dropped 3.7 per cent and Exxon Mobil lost 2.3 per cent.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average lost 106.31 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 17,852.48.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 15.06 points, or 0.7 per cent, to 2,060.31.
The Nasdaq composite fell 40.06 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 4,740.69.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,275.82 points, or 7.7 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is up 211.95 points, or 11.5 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 564.10 points, or 13.5 per cent.
