U.S. stocks closed mixed on Monday as the price of oil slipped and more disappointing news on the global economy emerged.
Investment bank Goldman Sachs lowered its forecast for oil prices because of ample supply and weaker demand, and business confidence in Germany declined for a sixth straight month
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 12.53 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 16,817.94.
The S&P 500 lost 2.95 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,961.63.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 2.22 points, or less than 0.1 per cent, to 4,485.93.
For the year:
The Dow is up 241.28 points, or 1.5 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is up 113.27 points, or 6.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 309.34 points, or 7.4 per cent.
